Essay on “Three Kings’ Festival”
The feast of Three Kings, celebrated at Epiphany, is one of the most important festivals in Goa. It is commonly celebrated on the 6th of January every year.
On this day the three villages of Chandor come together to put on a grand show. In reality, three little boys in the age group between 8 to 10 are chosen as Kings of three different villages. They dress up as the Three Kings and pass through the villages on horseback before arriving at the Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem. The selection of three kings creates a lot of excitement among the natives.
These Three Kings are followed by a huge procession and bands playing loud music. To see this grand event people from all corners of Goa throng at Epiphany. The whole area becomes full of fairs. The shops selling various kinds of things add another aspect of beauty to this grand festival. To watch the whole event is just like witnessing the unfolding of an age-old drama of power and royalty.
