Our Annual Sports Day
This year the annual sports day of our school was held on November 30. It was a good change from the classroom atmosphere of studies. We enjoyed ourselves a lot.
After the march-past and the oath-taking ceremony by the participants began the track events. First, there were 100-meter, 200-metre, and 400-meter races. The runners were loudly cheered as they ran past their supporters. The three-legged race aroused great interest. It provoked loud laughter when some pairs tumbled over. The cycle race attracted the largest number of participants.
The field events comprised the high jump, the long jump, the pole vault, the javelin throw, the discus throw, and putting the shot. The highlight of all these events was that an athlete broke the school record in the high jump.
An interesting event of the day was a tug-of-war between the staff and the students. The students won, to the great amusement of all.
Then there was the musical chair’s race for the guests only. The participants had to be very alert lest they should lose their seats when the music stopped. The race had moments of great suspense. An ex-serviceman stood first.
The participants who won the first three positions in each event came to the victory stand, were cheered, garlanded, and photographed.
When all the events were over, there was the prize-giving function. This was followed by a tea party.
We returned home happier than ever.
