Essay on “Modbera Dance Festival”
There is a place named Modhera in Mehsana district in North Gujarat. The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat organises an annual festival of dance here.
It is held every year in January for three days. The beautiful Sun Temple acts as the backdrop during the festival. The Sun Temple at Modhera was built during the reign of the Solanki King Bhimdev I. The temple is now in ruins. It is considered as one of the best specimens of Indian art and architecture of the bygone era. The temple is dedicated to Lord Surya.
It has its outer wall, covered with sculptures in which the figures of Lord Surya are prominent. The whole structure is magnified by the incredible rectangular step tank or Surya kund, a majestic 100 square meter rectangular pond, with interesting shrines. During the dance festival, famous classical dancers are invited from all over India. People come from various places to enjoy the festival.
