Essay on “Independence Day” National Festival
August 15 is India’s Independence Day. The day commemorates the day of 1947 when India threw away the foreign yoke. The day is celebrated by unfurling the national flag on all government and non-governmental buildings as well as in the state capitals and Union Territories. The Prime Minister’s speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi is the major highlight of this day
All government organisations are closed on this day as it is a national holiday. In all schools, a flag hoisting ceremony is organised where the head of the school unfurls the national flag. At every place, flag hoisting is followed by the recitation of India’s National Anthem.
In private organisations, the Flag hoisting ceremony is carried out by a senior officer of that organisation. On television and radio, various programmes related to India’s freedom struggle and freedom fighters are broadcasted. The day reminds us of the hard times faced by our freedom fighters. In the evening the flag is brought down with great respect.
