How I Was Lost Once
A lot of events must have happened during my childhood. However, there is one which I can never forget.
I was a student of Class I. My school was closed on account of summer vacation. My mother took me to my maternal uncle’s home in another town. We were having the best of time there. My auntie took care to entertain us with the choicest dishes. But there was one thing I did not like. I was not allowed to go out of the house all alone. My mother always kept an eye on me.
However, one evening, I stole out of the house. I went from street to street, just looking at things and people. When I was tired, I thought of going back. So I retraced my steps. But I soon found that I had lost my way. It had started getting dark. This filled me with fear. I began to cry. A passer-by asked me the reason. I explained to him that I had lost my way. I could not tell him my uncle’s address. He tried to calm me. He offered me some toffees, bought from a nearby shop. But I rejected them and went on crying.
As chance would have it, my mother appeared on the scene. She had come to search for me. I rushed to her and clung to her legs. She picked me up, embraced me, and took me home. Thank God she did not scold me for my disobedience.
