New Year day is celebrated not only in India but all over the world on January 1. It is one of the oldest festivals which is celebrated everywhere with great enthusiasm
January 1 has no astronomical nor agricultural significance as usually is the case for other festivals. It is purely arbitrary. The day is celebrated differently in different parts of the country and the world. But one thing which is common to every place and all people is that it is the day of making New Year resolutions.
Traditionally, it is assumed that one can affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by what they do or eat on the first day of the year. Consequently, people all over the world eagerly wait for the clock to strike twelve. Once the clock strikes twelve, people celebrate the first few minutes or moments of a brand new year in the company of family and friends. The feast lasts till the dawn of the January 1. Throughout the day people wish each other A Happy New Year’.
