Essay on “Desert Festival”
The Desert festival is celebrated in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. This Desert festival, a feast of demonstrations of colour, music and festivity, is held every year during the Hindu month of Magh.
Jaisalmer’s three-day desert festival is also a kind of exhibition of some of the most fondly preserved components of Rajasthan’s rich culture. The most fascinating and enjoyable activities are the Marushri (Mr. Desert) competition, turban-tying competition and tug of war. Indians compete with foreigners which add to the fun of the festival. An interesting event is the moustache competition. In this competition, the prize is awarded to the person possessing the longest moustache.
Another exciting thing about the full moonlit night Desert Festival is the pleasure of camel rides. The festival, replete with light shows, Gair dancers, fire dances, puppet shows on the sand dunes, makes it an unforgettable experience.
