What do you think is Causing Pollution?
Every year we hear of the increasing levels of pollution in our cities. What is pollution? We normally tend to associate it with the more obvious outdoor sources like smoke, smog and chemical emissions. However, any act which makes the environment unclean or impure can be termed as pollution.
This could range from the wastes from factories and sewage treatment plants dumped in the seas and oceans to pesticides used by factories to improve the growth of their produce.
There are many other sources too, of which we maybe unaware, which also cause and increase pollution. They include tobacco smoke, cooking and cooling appliances and vapours from building materials and paints. These are what can he termed as indoor pollutants. As we work, study, eat, drink and sleep in enclosed environments these might even affect us more than the outdoor ones.
In our daily lives we unknowingly increase pollution levels through the use of paper products and consumption of flavoring agents, additives and preservatives used in processed and fast foods.
Pollution is one of the greatest causes of harm to human life today. Even though it is difficult for us to go out and stop all the damage on our own, we can help in our own way. Recycling things. eating fresh home cooked food, using car pools fix-going to school and walking or bicycling short distances will go a long way in saving Planet Earth.
