The Doctor’s Visit at Home
Doctors are angels on the surface of the Earth who restore our health and peace by working relentlessly without a thought of their own comfort. In times of medical’ crisis, just hearing a doctor’s voice begins the healing process psychologically. And yet, ironically, when all is almost well, the thought of visiting a doctor actually scares most of us.
Perhaps, it’s all the immunization vaccines we get, that put in the fear of doctors in our psyche. Doctors are here to alleviate our pain but we perceive them as symbolic of pain. I have been mortally afraid of doctors as I had more than required injections owing to nose bleeds. The mention of a doctor was enough to wipe the smile off my face. I was eight when I had a bout of fever. My father had a doctor friend who decided to visit us just then. I was not aware that he had just come in for calling on and I was almost in tears at the thought of a jab! By the time he reached my side with a smile on his kind face, I was pale with worry. He sensed it and very tenderly carried out a check and declared that all was well and that I needed the sweetest of all syrups that ever existed. I felt better immediately.
For all the faith that I have in Doctors and respect for their noble profession, I still am petrified at the thought of visiting one!
