Sucheta Kriplani
Sucheta Kriplani was a fearless woman of great determination and willpower. She played a pivotal role in India’s freedom movement.
This great patriot of our country was born in 1908 at Ambala. She completed her M.A. from Delhi University and thereafter was appointed as the principal of Hindu College. While working as the principal, she thought of joining politics to help her country to gain freedom.
In 1932 she joined active politics. She gave up her job to take active part in the freedom movements. in 1940, she took part in the `Satyagraha’. Sucheta Kriplani was arrested while participating in this movement.
In 1943, she established ‘National Woman Commission’ to instill the spirit of patriotism in the women. She sent letters to many committees to give the information about the activities of the organisation.
She also imparted training through well experienced trainers to the girls to make them smart enough to defend themselves from the outsiders. Besides this she sent help to the families of the freedom fighters, who were languishing in jails.
In 1944, she again got arrested and went to jail. In 1945, she was released. Now she engrossed herself in the service of the mankind. She played a significant role in providing relief to the affected people in the days of partition. She would do efforts to give protection to women who were kidnapped in India and Pakistan by the anti-social elements. During 1947 to 1951, she worked as the member of Congress.
Finally, she was appointed as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in October 1963. She served for five years on that post. This benevolent leader proceeded forwards heavenly abode on 1 December 1975. Sucheta Kriplani shall be always remembered for her idealistic views and selfless service for the mankind.
