Books are interesting companions if we know how to use them. Students think of only text books when the word book is mentioned. Thane are many books which you can read for pleasure and profit.

Unless you have the skill of reading, you may not be able to make good use of books. This is a skill which every one hast acquire. First of all learn to read groups of words along the line but not words separately. Your eyes are capable of covering a whole group of words at the same time and you must get them to move over the groups fast. To read word by word is not good.

Speed is essential in reading. But it is no use of reading if you do not understand what you are reading. You must read fast with understanding. Continuous practice alone can give you this important skill.

It is quite unnecessary to read anything aloud. It makes learning difficult for you. Reading aloud makes you tired. Silent reading on the other hand helps you to read faster. Reading aloud is much slower, very tired and probably quite useless most of the time.

Unless you can read efficiently in your mother tongue you will not be able to read well in English, a foreign language.

Reading is a skill which improves with practice. The more you practice, the more skill you acquire in reading fast with comprehension.

Reading is a very important skill in the process of education.

Most successful men have been excellent readers. President Kennedy, Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Macaulay and Dr. Johnson were great readers.

In our own country, Pandit Nehru, Tagore, Anna, Rajaji and Azad were voracious readers and it is well known that amidst all pressures of their work they found at least a little time to read all the books they loved.

Reading a book is like taking to its author. The authors are ready to share their knowledge, their wisdom, their wit and humour and their emotions with every reader who cares to open their books and read them.

Reading is perhaps the most valuable habit that a person can possess. And it is a habit to be acquired when one is young.
