Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore was one of the greatest philosophers of India. He was also a sensitive poet, who felt the plight of the down-trodden people and got down the canvas of the world on the paper.
This literary genius created many masterpieces including `Mansi’ and `Geetanjali’, that gained popularity in the entire world.
Rabindra was born on 6th May 1861 in Calcutta. His father’s name was DevendraNath Tagore. Rabindra was the youngest among seven children. Rabindra grew up in natural surroundings and positive environment. His parents were very religious and artistic. They were scholarly people with a philosophical bent of mind.
Rabindra was admitted in a school named ‘Bengal Academy’ but Rabindra didn’t like the environment of the school, as the children were mercilessly beaten by the teachers which made the children rebellious and obstinate. Since Rabindra refused to go to the school, his parents decided to impart him education at home through well qualified teachers.
Rabindra was highly allured by the surroundings of the nature. He would wonder at the beautiful nature created by God. He said that while staying in a place near a river, he got to see the shadow of the trees, black forest, the tides of the river Ganges and the noisy rainfall.
Rabindra would go sailing on the boat along with his father and observe the mountainous regions, while taking delight in. the beauty of the nature. In the year 1878 he went to England to study English literature. After returning from there, he got married to Mrinalini, but his marriage days didn’t last for long as before 1907, he lost his father, daughter, son and wife, all one by one. Rabindranath was shocked by these terrible blows of life, but he didn’t lose his heart. Now, the entire world was his own family and thus he stopped grieving for them.
Rabindranath Tagore established two institutions of learning—`Shanti Niketan and Vishwabharti’.
In Shantiniketan, the students were supposed to wake up early in the morning, to wash one’s own clothes, to take a bath, to pray to God, to play, to learn, to take part in music and drama, and to practice poems, drama and stories. Shantiniketan instills good moral values in the students and strengthen up his character.
The Vishwabharti was established by Rabindranath Tagore on n December 1918.
Rabindranath Tagore received Nobel prize for his famous book titled `Geetanjali’.
On 7th August 1941, Rabindranath Tagore proceeded towards the heavens, never to return back again on the earth.
