On Being Hungry
Food is the basic requirement of all living creatures in this world. Hunger has both psychological effect as well as the nervine effect. It is felt more acutely during the summer season. My school starts at 7.30 A.M. during summer. In the morning, before leaving for the school, I take a glass of milk with two biscuits. The recess period starts at 11.00 A.M. and ends at 11.30. 1 hardly take anything in the recess period. I do not like to eat anything sold at the gate of the school. I feel hungry at 1.00 P.M. when it is still two and a half hours for the school to break. The feeling of hunger produces a strain on my stomach. As soon as I reach home, I want to eat immediately as I am unable to wait due to hunger. I take whatever is available without caring about the taste or anything. The feeling of hunger takes my thoughts to those who are not in a position to have two square meals a day. I wonder, how do the hungry people sleep on the empty stomach? And, how is it possible for them to work on the next morning. The difficulty with man is that ha cannot eat everything. An animal; on the other hand, can satisfy his hunger by eating something or the other that may be available to him. Having myself experienced the pain of hunger, I pray to God that He should give two square meals to all human being living on His earth.
