Man – A Nomad

Dictionary defines the word nomad as a member of a tribe which has no permanent home but keeps moving from place to place. Early man was a nomad because his life style made it imperative for him to constantly be on the move as he was seeking new pasture ground for his cattle; and sheep. This search took him to faraway places and this in turn led to migration of different races across the globe. In the process new races and cultures were evolved. As man became more civilized, he settled down in one place, mainly river banks and pursued agriculture as his main occupation. With more time on his hands, he gradually learnt other trades and this led to specialization.

As time had went by, man a more comfortable life style and he could also pursue his own leisure activities. But by nature man is still a nomad. He may not be moving with his cattle and sheep but there is this constant desire in him to move towards better experiences that would help to improve the quality of his life. To explore, to know and to learn has been the driving force that motivated great explorers to discover new sea routes, new continents. Expeditions to the North and South Pole and the exploration of space are also the result of his quest to seek new frontiers.

These men were trend setters in their own way and have inspired many others to follow in their footsteps. With better means of transport, it became easier to shrink the distance between places and also gain in time. Traveling around the globe has helped us to understand that this firsthand experience with people of different cultures, customs and languages can be the most enriching experience.

Whether he is unraveling the mysteries of space or fathoming the depths of the oceans, man is satisfying this desire to seek fresh pastures.
