Kiran Bedi (birth 9 June, 1949) is an epitome of valiance and fearlessness. She is the first woman I.P.S. officer and one of the most honest police officers of the nation. Kiran Bedi has brought many reforms in the Indian prisons to show the right direction of life to the criminals.

She has introduced Yoga and meditation in the jails to calm down the tensed nerves of the prisoners and make them peaceful. Kiran Bedi had helped many men and women of India to overcome their bad habits and lead a healthy life. She gave right guidance to the people who were gropping in the darkness of ignorance and were ruining their lives due to wrong deeds.

Kiran Bedi won an Asia Region Award for prevention of drugs and after that was honoured with the Magsaysay award in the year 1994.

Kiran Bedi had suffered many setbacks in life, yet, she never accepted defeat in life. Kiran Bedi was transferred from one place to another under pressure of those ones, who were not able to digest her popularity and success, but Kiran Bedi accepted this punishment given for none of her faults.

Kiran Bedi has faced numerous challenges of life bravely. She has undertook Herculean tasks with great determination and willpower.

Kiran Bedi had never accepted defeat in life, howsoever hard it might be. She believes that, “When the going gets tough, then the tough gets going.”

Kiran Bedi is a tough cop of our police force, who has handled the toughest of situations, brilliantly. She is a judicious person overflowing with the milk of kindness.

She is also associated with few NGOs who actively working for the upliftment of down trodden.

Kiran Bedi

Kiran Bedi is a multifaceted Indian woman, and is one of the most daring lady police officers, whose motto in life is to fight against crime and injustice and never give up. She is a woman of dignity, honesty, confidence and courage with deep sympathy for the underprivileged people of the society. All these qualities make her a very admirable officer.

Kiran Bedi became the first woman in India to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). She opted for this service despite this being traditionally male dominated. Her confidence and belief in herself as a person always stood by her and helped her to achieve success. She is a source of inspiration for Indian women. She believes that women should work with men shoulder to shoulder in all spheres of life.

It was during her tenure as the jailor of Tihar Jail, in Delhi, that she introduced a lot of reforms and changes in its working system and the inmates for whom life no longer had any meaning, due to her belief and zeal, found a chance of new life.

In the year 1994, she was awarded the prestigious Magsaysay Award for her contribution to the society and she was also honoured with the Asia Region Award for the prevention of drugs in the society.

Kiran Bedi firmly believes that all Indians should be educated as this would help to decrease the crimes more than any other step. She is also of the opinion that even a hard core criminal should be given a chance to correct himself and try the honest, honourable way of living.

The two qualities which best describe Kiran Bedi are her no-nonsense attitude and her personal belief in herself. With this she can obviously achieve what she aims to achieve.
