15th August 1947 is a red-letter day in Indian history. On this day, India had gained freedom from British rule. It is called Independence Day. It is celebrated with great eclat throughout the country. It is a public holiday all over India. In Delhi, the day is celebrated with great solemnity. The ramparts of the Red Fort is the center of this ceremony. The Prime Minister arrives here early in the morning and a guard of honor is presented to him by the three services, namely, army navy, and air force. The cabinet ministers, foreign dignitaries, and VIPs are present on this occasion. The Prime Minister unfurls the national flag at the ramparts of the Red Fort. The national anthem is sung. Then, the Prime Minister delivers his speech. The entire program is directly relayed on television.

Independence Day Celebration

India gained its freedom from the clutches of Britishers on 15th August 1947. This day is a tribute to those noble Indian souls who had laid their lives for the freedom of the country.

Independence Day celebrations are held in Delhi, the capital of India at Red Fort. The Prime Minister of India unfurls the National Flag and takes a salute which is followed by his speech emphasizing the importance of the national integrity and unity of India. He also reminds the Indian people of those nationalist leaders who struggled hard and sacrificed their lives for the country. He also asks people to protect this precious independence by maintaining peace among fellow citizens.

On this day, our National Flag can be seen on all the Government buildings and embassies. Some citizens also unfurl the National Flag on the terrace of their homes. All the buildings are lit with bright colored electric bulbs.

Thus this day is celebrated with full enthusiasm by all the citizens of India.
