Akbar – Moghul Emperor
Akbar was the greatest Moghul emperor of India. He was extremely compassionate towards his subjects and tried his best to give comforts to them. He wished to give full justice to his people to make them happy under his rule.
Akbar was born in 1542 in Sindh. He was the son of Humayun. Mbar sat on the throne of India at a very early age after the demise of his father.
Akbar had a very weak empire when he was made the king. He began to conquer the other territories of the country and thus extended his empire.
Akbar might have been over ambitious, but he was a good ruler. He wanted to serve the people of all religions selflessly. All the taxes that were levied on Hindus to build temples were abolished during the reign of Akbar. Equal respect was given to Hindus and Muslims.
King Akbar had built `lbadat Khana’ which meant “Me house of worship.’ lbadat Khana was constructed in Fatehpur Sikri and people of all religion were allowed to come here and worship God in their own ways. They were permitted to hold discussions based on their religion and give explanations about their religious scriptures to all those who were interested in them.
Akbar took advice of all the brilliant persons in his court including, Quazi, Bakshi and Wazir. The Quazi was the chief judge, Bakshi was the military adviser and the Wazir advised on all the matters Concerned with taxes and land revenue. Everything was systematized under his rule. There were two halls, where he would sit alongwith his advisors and discuss the matters pertaining to the state. One of the halls was called Diwan-i-Khas’ and the other one.was named, `Diwan-i-Aam’. The Diwan-i-Khas was the hail meant for the special audience and the `Diwan-i-Aam’ was for the common people.
Akbar was a humble and down-to-earth emperor. He accepted the superiority of God and did his best efforts to please the ‘highest authority of the entire universe. Akbar had high regards for genuine saints and permitted them to propagate their religion freely in the state. All the great saints including Tulsidas, Surdas and Raskhan created master pieces in his reign.
Akbar died in the year 1605. The tomb of this great ruler is situated in Agra.
Akbar shall be remembered for his religious tolerance and sharpness of mind.
