A Wedding That I Attended
I was asked by my parents to accompany them to the marriage ceremony of a cousin. We reached the house of cousin in the morning. Preparation for marriage were being made from the morning itself. The marriage party was expected, to arrive at 8.30 P.M. Decorations for receiving the party went in full swing. From the afternoon onwards, food was being prepared. When the marriage-party arrived, all of us were at the decorated gate to receive the marriage-party and the bride-groom. He was richly dressed and arrived sitting on the back of the mare. The party was led for dinner. The bridegroom was seated on the flower-decked stage. The bride was led by the ladies to the stage and she garlanded the bridegroom. The bridegroom then garlanded the bride. After the dinner was over and some other ceremonies performed, the final ceremony started. Sacred hymns were chanted by the pundit and the couple took seven rounds of the fire. This final ceremony bound the couple in the sacred relationship of life partners. We returned to our house in the morning of the next day.
