A Day in the Life of a School Girl

I woke up this morning at 6.30 am as usual. I ironed my school uniform and checked my bag to see if I had kept all my books. Stuffing my tiffin box into the school bag, gulping down my glass of milk and gobbling a slice of bread, I dashed out to catch my bus. It was 7.30 am and the bus driver had been blowing his horn for over five minutes. I found an empty seat beside my best friend and thanked God that so far everything had gone well. Assembly passed off without any mishap — my class teacher did not notice that the elastic of one of my socks was loose!

Classes began and period after period went by. I was checked for my poor handwriting but praised for my sums which, wonder of wonders, were all correct.

Soon after, it was time for our ‘break’. My friends and I sat together sharing our tiffns and chatting.

The rest of the day in school passed uneventfully, except during the physics period when a minor diversion was caused by a lizard which fell with a plop on a girl’s desk. She screamed loudly, the boys laughed, the other girls made a dash for the door, and our teacher with one disgusted look at all of us, calmly slid a sheet of paper under it and threw it out of the window.

Back home in the afternoon, I slept for a while, then did my homework. Evening saw me out with my friends for a walk and a game of badminton. Half an hour in front of the television set convinced me that it was indeed an idiot box. I decided instead to go through my lessons once again and then settled down with the latest adventures of Dorothea.

Soon it was time for dinner which, as usual, the whole family ate together. I am slightly tired by this time, so here I am filling in my diary for the day before going to bed.
