The dog Rover, hero of Cecil Hepworth’s outstandingly successful low-budget (£ 13 s 9 d) box-office hit Rescued by Rover. It was originally released in the spring of 1905, but was twice remade to satisfy demand when the prints ran out. It then starred in 7 other films and thereby became the first film ANIMAL STAR.
