Dear Bhushan,
I am glad to receive your letter enquiring about my health and studies. I hope, this finds you in good health.
In connection with the foundation day of my school, a number of programmes were held in the school, last week. An essay-competition was also held on the occasion. The subject of the essay was ‘Technology creates more problems than it can solve’. The students desirous of participating in the essay-competition were required to give their names to the English teacher. I also gave my name. The participants were given three days’ time to prepare the essay and read it on the stage. A panel of judges was formed to adjudge the best three essays for awarding first, second and third prizes.
In all, ten essays were read by the students. You will be pleased to know that my essay was adjudged as the best and I received a cash prize of rupees five hundred and a cup. The prizes were distributed by the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, who was the chief guest. I was so happy to receive the prize that I distributed sweets to my friends. Your share remains due from me.
For your information, the main points covered in my essay were as follows:-
- i) The advancing technology implies pollution, exhaustion of natural resources and lack of workers’ satisfaction.
- ii) The developments in technology lead to serious problems of unemployment, squandering of material resources and social dislocation.
- iii) The general availability of psycho-therapeutic drugs controlling mental processes has created a grave social problem.
- iv) Space-technology poses a great danger to the world if it is used for polluting the atmosphere.
I hope, you are doing fine in your studies. Please convey my regards to your parents.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
XYZ
