Road Safety
Many accidents occur every day. Most of these accidents take place on the roads. We know from the newspapers that a large number of people die due to road accidents in various parts of the city. Many people, who escape death, are seriously injured or become disabled. Deaths due to road accidents have ruined many homes. The authorities concerned have been facing the problem of road safety for a long time. Road accidents have been attracting attention of the traffic police for a long time. The roads are also being improved. Those found guilty of breaking the traffic rules are fined. Still, the problem persists. One of the effective methods of tackling this problem is to educate the public. This type of education can be imparted through a number of methods like newspapers, radio, television, film shows, etc. Road safety council have also proved to be useful in this regard. The student community is also making some contribution towards this aspect. Volunteers are helping the authorities in the matter. As road accidents occur frequently, it is the need of the hour that road-safety education, should be made compulsory in schools as a part of the general education. It is an essential civic training and can contribute immensely towards saving of human lives.
