A Street Quarrel
Essay No. 01
Street quarrels are common in the slums. But sometimes even people of higher strata of society are found quarreling in the streets. Last Sunday, I was busy with my studies. Suddenly I heard some noise. I came out of my room. I saw two women shouting, abusing, and fighting each other in our back street. They both were kicking, hitting, and showering blows on each other. At one time both were pulling each other’s hair. What a scene they made! Other women, children, and even men were enjoying the quarrel. Nobody tried to intervene. I went forward and separated them. I stopped the fight after great difficulty. The cause was minor. Their sons were playing cricket in the street. They had a quarrel on their turn of batting. Soon their mothers joined them. In this way, the two ladies had a pitched battle. Perhaps their fathers were not present at home. So the street quarrel did not take an ugly turn.

A Street Quarrel
One day I went to the market to buy vegetables. I saw a crowd of people standing in front of a shop. I rushed to the spot to find out what was there. I found that some people were exchanging hot words. I learned that a customer had bought 10 meters of cloth from a cloth dealer and when he went home he discovered that the dealer had given him ten yards. But the shopkeeper now told him that goods once sold could not be returned. They started arguing. In the meantime, a large number of people gathered there. They intervened in the matter. Some sided with the customer while others sided with the shopkeeper. From hot words, the customer and the shopkeeper came to blows. At last, some people separated them. The shopkeeper’s nose began to bleed. Somebody rang up the police. Soon a policeman reached the noisy scene. He interrogated the people about the matter and took both the customer and the shopkeeper to the police station. The crowd that had gathered there then melted away.

A Street Quarrel
Street quarrels are a general phenomenon seen in every village and town. The reasons for these quarrels are quite small, but their consequences are very severe.
One fine Sunday morning, I was studying as usual. All of a sudden, I heard a noise in the street. I kept my books aside and went to see what the matter was. I found a young man fighting with a rickshaw puller. Many people had gathered over there. They were fighting over the payment of the fare. The rickshaw puller demanded ten rupee but the passenger was willing to pay him only five rupees. They were abusing each other. After some heated arguments, the rickshaw puller gave one blow on the nose of the passenger and tore his shirt. The passenger hit him back in the same manner.
The crowd increased in a flash. Some took the side of the passenger while others took the side of the rickshaw puller. Soon an aged, man came over there and solved the problem. Thus, the useless quarrel ended with a compromise.
