Sardar Patel
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was one of the jewels of our country. He was a great freedom fighter’ and a valiant leader of India.
Sardar Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Khera district of Gujarat. Little Vallabh was very sensitive against injustice done to anyone. He would revolt against it right from his very childhood, and thus was not liked by his teachers. The teachers would suppress him, but he didn’t get suppressed. He didn’t bow before the atrocities of British, instead rose up to fight against them.
During that time the whole nation had become united under the charismatic leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and his companions. Sardar Patel was very close to Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was very much impressed by his valiant deeds and compassionate nature.
Once Sardar Patel spent 16 months in jail with Mahatma Gandhi, and looked after his every need over there, with the result of which both of them became close associates.
In 1942, Sardar Patel gave powerful speeches against the British rule, and got applauded by each patriotic Indian. For his successful leadership in Khera peasants Satyagraha Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of `Sardar’.
Sardar Patel had rough and tough looks, but was internally very soft and kind hearted person. He was against the British as they have conquered Indian territory and were exploiting the people of India for vested interests. His speeches left a deep impact amongst the people and created numerous patriots, who were ready to shed their lives for their nation.
When India became independent country, Sardar Patel played a major role for her unification.
Sardar Patel didn’t fear death. He was always ready to die for a good cause. He left for his heavenly abode on 15 December 1950. This brave leader of our country lived a valiant life and died a valiant death and became the immortal star of the nation with his great deeds.
