The people of India according to the constitution are the real rulers of the country and everything in the country shall be decided by the people themselves. There shall be no outside authority to rule over us. To build a healthy society, each citizen shall have the right to ;ustice, liberty and freedom.
The preamble to the Constitution of India reads as follows:
We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved o constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist secular Democratic Republic and to secure to all its citizens; Justice, social, economic and political; Liberty of thought, expression, belief in faith and worship; Equality of status and opportunity and so promote among them all fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity of the Nation.
According to our constitution the real power lies with the people. They elect their representatives who make the laws for the nation. They run the Government. Nothing can happen unless most of the people in the country want it. This is a democratic form of Government.
The head of the Indian Union is the President of the Republic. He is elected by the representatives of the people throughout the country. He is the supreme commander of the armed forces of the nation viz., the Army, the Navy and the Air-force. He runs the Government with the help of the Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister is the head of that council.
All grown up citizens of the country have a right to elect their representatives who are elected once in every five years. India is a union of states having 22 states and 9 centrally administered territories. To govern such a country properly our constitution provides for a union Government in the center and Government in the states as well as in the Union territories.
