A Trek through the Hills

A trek can be a very delightful and relaxing experience, particularly for those who love nature. It gives one an opportunity to be in close proximity to scenic beauty. There is nothing that can beat the joy of taking a trek through the hills.

Some years ago I visited the Jim Corbett National Park in Nainital. We lodged in a small cottage in Nainital, a little away from the milling crowds that frequent the place during the summer vacation. There was a long winding trail that led away from the cottage. I just could not resist the temptation of making a trek on that road. The path was flanked by tall pine trees that gave off a sweet fragrance. The soft breeze carried the fragrance far and wide. The trail led to slopes and terraced fields. These looked very picturesque and was awed by the industriousness of man who can overcome all natural obstacles to survive. The chirping of the birds filled me with peace.

After walking for about fifty yards. I chanced upon a small rivulet. The clear, sparkling water gurgled as it moved and lashed over rocks and pebbles. I was tempted to splash my face with it. Refreshed, I continued my trek and” reached a open green stretch—with velvety grass that stretched out before me. Taking off my rucksack, I lay down. The evening sun had disappeared beyond the horizons and I looked at the stars above.  I was filled with marvel at the beauty of nature.

After a while I began the return trek through a shorter trail, winding through a stretch of thick forest. The return journey was a little hurried for I had heard numerous stories of wild animals attacking trekkers. This trek through -the hills left me feeling rejuvenated and provided the much needed respite from the stress and strain of urban living.
