Early Bird Gets the Worm
Brrrrrnnnnng!! I heard the distant sound of the alarm as I lay fast asleep on a Sunday morning. Wake up, wake up, my mother shouted as she shook me hard. got up with a start realizing that I had overslept. Wasit too late already, I thought to myself disappointedly.
Our city was the venue for the next India – Pakistan cricket match and free tickets were to be issued to the first two hundred children who reached the stadium before the appointed, time. This was the day I had been waiting for the past several months.
Without wasting any further time I hopped on to my cycle and pedaled as fast as I could, to the stadium. There were a multitude of people gathered there already. I felt jealous looking at the tickets in the hands of the children who had reached there before me. With just four children ahead of me in the line. the man at the counter hung a ‘SOLD OUT’ board. I chided myself for my laziness.
At school the next day, our teacher asked us to discuss the proverb -The early bird gets the worm. I instantly thought of my experience of the previous day; if only I had woken up early I would have been able to get a free ticket too. On hearing my account, my entire class agreed with me- the early bird does get the worm!
