The Season I Like the Best
“Raindrops keep falling on my head” go the lyrics of an old English song.
I am sure you have guessed what I am talking about. Yes, I am talking about the monsoons; the season 1 like the best!
Have you ever jumped into a swimming pool on a hot, sweaty day? The monsoons bring about a similar feeling after the scorching heat of the summers. The thrill of soaking in the first showers cannot be explained. Soon, colourful umbrellas and raincoats pop up all around and the air is full of cheery sounds of little children jumping up and down in the rain.
The weather cools down and brings with it the smell of wet earth. As if by magic, the trees and plants perk up and look clean and green again! The lawns start buzzing with snails and earthworms and the frogs announce their joy by croaking throatily.
The mere mention of the word monsoon brings back memories of sitting by the window with friends; sipping on a hot drink, chatting while playing board games and watching the rain lash against the window pane. Can monsoons ever be complete without buttery corn on the cob and piping hot pakodas?
Every cloud has a silver lining they say! I believe monsoons are Nature’s way of reiterating the same. It becomes so much easier going through the hot summer months knowing the monsoons are just a few days away!
