Amber Fort

The fortification of Amber was completed by Rajdev in the 13th century. However, much that remains in Amber, both within the fort palace, town – and in the adjoining areas, belongs to the period when the Kachchahas came into prominence from the beginning of the 16th century onwards.

Raja Man Singh built a spacious and beautiful palace in the fort of Amber and a landscaped garden called Dilram Bagh on the Moatha Lake. Most of the magnificent structures standing in the Amber palace can be traced to Mirza Raja Jai Singh.

Amber Fort is accessible by a steep path known as the Singh Pole (Lion Gate). There is a huge double-storied entrance to the inner courtyard called Ganesh Pole (Elephant Gate). The Jas Mandir within the fort is Jai Singh’s masterpiece. It is decorated with convex mirrors on stucco reliefs on flowering plants. The fort dominating the western horizon of the Amber is Jaigarh Fort.
