My dear Sachin,
You will be glad to learn that last week we made an excursion to Murshidabad, which is a place of historical importance. Here I will give you a brief account of the tour.
Surely Murshidabad has now lost its ancient glory. The Nawabs of Bengal once reigned there with pomp but now it has lost much of its glamour. The old town has ruins of old houses which were once the objects of pride of this place. Hazarduari, or the thousand-door palace is still there and is more or less in good condition. It is really a gorgeous building. It has a museum preserving many historical relics. The mosques of Murshidabad are also things to look at. The tomb of Siraj-Ud-doula stands at Khas Bag across the Bhagirathi. We also saw the tomb of Murshid Kuli Khan, who founded the town of Murshidabad. At Jafarganj we saw the palace of Nawab Mir Jafar which is also in ruins. Mir Jafar’s tomb reminded me of his treachery which paved the way for British rule in India.
We came back after three days. This short stay gave me some fresh air and intense joy. More when we meet. I am glad to tell you that I am quite fit and well.
