Falling Down the Stairs
“I hope the children like these toys,” Kelly said to herself as she carried three cardboard boxes that were filled with old toys. She was taking them to the orphanage a stone’s throw away from her house.
Kelly managed to cross a road while carrying the boxes. However, there was a steep flight of stairs in front of her. As Kelly was carrying the boxes in front of her, she could not see where she was going. She walked down the stairs as slowly as she could. She was reaching the bottom when she missed a step and stumbled forward. As her hands were full, she could not hold on to anything for support. Without warning, she tumbled forward.
“Help!” she screamed as she rolled down the stairs with the boxes tumbling about around her. Suddenly, Kelly felt a hard object hitting her shoulder. She shouted in pain. A cyclist passing by was unable to stop in time and Kelly had crashed into him. She hit her head on the handlebars just before coming to a stop.
Several passersby rushed over to help Kelly and the cyclist. Fortunately, they were not badly injured. The toys were also still intact in the boxes. Kelly apologized to the cyclist, who kindly helped her to take the boxes to the orphanage.
