A Show Gone Wrong
It was the opening night of a well-known West End musical and all the tickets were sold out.
Before long, the musical started. The huge red curtains were raised. Then, the first song was heard and the actors danced onto the stage. Everyone applauded. However, when one of the actors was about to finish his song, a chandelier above him crashed to the floor. The audience gasped in horror. The chandelier fell at the actor’s feet. Glass pieces were shattered everywhere. The actor was badly cut. The curtains went down immediately and the backstage crew hurriedly cleared up the chandelier. Although the show started a few minutes later, the cast was very frightened by the incident. They did not perform as well as they should have. Just when the audience thought that things could not get worse, the lights went out on stage. One of the actresses tripped over her dress and fell flat on her face. Another actress near her bumped into her and fell over her. The two actresses were so badly bruised that they could not perform.
The show was canceled that night. The cast apologized to the audience and promised to perform an extra night. The audience gave the cast a round of resounding applause to encourage them. The first show was certainly a disaster.
