My New Shoes
“Stop jumping around in your shoes or you’ll fall!” Mrs. Rivers warned her daughter, Claudia. However, the mischievous girl ignored her mother. She liked her new shoes very much. They had inch-high heels and glitter in front of the shoes. They were beautiful.
Claudia left for the library in her new shoes although her mother was shouting for her to put on her plimsolls instead. She danced along the pavement all the way to the library. In the library, she was shushed by the librarian twice for deliberately skipping around. Her shoes made loud clicking noises on the floor. Claudia was still stomping about when she saw a book that she wanted to read on the top shelf. She jumped up to reach for it. However, she was unable to regain her balance and fell with a thud on the floor. Her shoes flew off her feet and landed a short distance away from her. Claudia was not injured but terribly embarrassed. Her face turned bright red and several children nearby giggled.
Claudia left the library immediately after that without borrowing any books. She walked slowly and carefully all the way home as she was afraid of falling again.
