The Quarrelsome Neighbours

“Crash!” The sound came from upstairs. Thomas jumped out of his bed in fright. Then, he heard two females shouting at the top of their voices. It must be the neighbours again. They quarrelled over everything. Thomas ran out of his house to see what was happening.

He crept up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, he peered cautiously around the corner. He saw two of his neighbours standing with their hands on their hips. They were glaring at each other. There was a broken flowerpot on the floor between them. One of them, Mrs. Smith, pointed a finger at the other neighbour, Mrs. Black. She shouted at her for damaging her flowerpot.

Thomas was taken aback when he saw Mrs. Black push Mrs. Smith backwards and kick the flowerpot into a small drain at the side. Mrs. Smith was furious. She rushed towards Mrs. Black and pushed her against the wall. Thomas gasped in fright. He was about to get help when he saw Mrs. Black’s husband come out of the house. He apologized to Mrs. Smith for what had happened. Then, he told his wife firmly to return home.

Thomas crept down the stairs. He was glad that nothing serious had happened. He clambered into his bed and went back to sleep.
