The Gardens
Garden is a piece of land next to or around our house where different trees, flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc. are grown. There are many kinds of garden, such as flower garden, fruit garden, vegetable garden, botanical garden and the garden of medicinal herbs. People like to grow vegetable or fruit gardens close to their houses. Such gardens are known as kitchen gardens. Some of the schools too, possess their own gardens for their students to work in.
Gardening is an exciting and healthy pastime. Every garden is surrounded by a fence around it. Fences are usually made of wood or bamboo. Sometimes green fence is raised round the garden.
The garden is divided into different sections. Each section is divided into beds. Each bed is surrounded by an earthen raise. Some sections are meant for flower plants, for fruit trees, for vegetables and for medicinal herbs. People raise different kinds of vegetables in different season. Generally, they raise pumpkin, gourd, bitter gourd, garlic, tomato, snake gourd, brinjal, bean, pea, cabbage, turnip, cauliflower, radish, onion, spinach, ladyfinger, etc. Fruit trees like apples, chickoos, plums, etc. can also be grown. Moreover, different kinds of shrubs, creepers and trees can be grown in a garden. All come under the plant kingdom.
People spade the gardens, root out grasses, prepare beds, sow seeds, plant trees and water the plants on regular bases. They keep the garden neat and clean by working in morning as well as in evening. They also manure the gardens.
Taking care of the plants in garden from insects is very important. Insects can be harmful for the plants. They lay eggs on the plants, flowers and fruits. These eggs can be destroyed by spraying insecticides. Occasionally, lime is mixed in the soil to kill the germs and bacteria present in it. Thus, the fertility of the soil increases.
However, gardening is very helpful and there are several uses of garden. People get fresh vegetables from their gardens that are high in nutritional value. They work in their gardens and thereby do physical exercise. Thus, it provides us an open-air exercise, resulting in good health.
